Loss – Celebrate!

We mourn the loss but we also Celebrate the life of Kathy Carlson.

She would be telling us not to grieve too much. Consider it joy! Be encouraged and Celebrate! For Kathy, to be away from the body, is to be home with the Lord! Her soul is swallowed up with the full enjoyment of God. Nothing is empty! We can receive God’s grace, but she is receiving God’s glory! We may have some sips or some tastes of God; But God’s fullness is being experienced by Kathy!

 I preached my first sermon at Randolph Heights Last March. Kathy Carlson made a point to talk with me afterward, and anybody who knew her, know’s that she’s a determined sort. If she wants something, and you are in her path or if you are the target, you don’t have much chance. Her conversation with me after the sermon will stay with me until the very last sermon I preach.

It went something like this… Ken, I had no idea you could preach like that! “I didn’t either, Kathy, that was my first”! She let me know I mixed encouragement with challenge and it was a blessing to her… “Keep it up!”, she said!

I was humbled and blessed by her encouragement especially since the topic of my sermon was from James chapter one. Consider it Joy, when we encounter trials of various kinds. Kathy had a debilitating and eventual life-taking disease. It won the battle, but not the war. If I would have had any foresight, I might have changed topics, maybe I would’ve lightened the sermon up a bit. But then, I probably wouldn’t of had that conversation with Kathy either, and been blessed by her words.

Many have been blessed by her life and we celebrate, despite the loss of our dear sister and friend.
